Wheatfield Farms is a 550,000 SF indoor agricultural facility located in Western NY State. We strive to create high quality products in an environmentally-friendly way.
The concept of food miles estimates the environmental impact of transporting a food product from field to market. The carbon footprint of shipping produce from Arizona, California, Florida or Mexico - primary sources for fresh produce - is at least 50 times greater than ours.
We employ a soilless growing system called hydroponics. Some estimates say hydroponics use 10 times less water than field-grown produce. Less is more to us.
Greenhouse farms do use energy, but we think we've invented a breakthrough for greenhouse energy management. Leveraging LED lighting, clean, natural gas and plant transpiration dynamics, we estimate our patented TROPOS™ growing system cuts typical energy usage by at least 25%.
